Molecule pairs.

Two carbons sound like a rounding error. On a certificate of analysis they are the difference between a line for CBG and a line for CBGV, and in the literature they are the difference between a compound with a human trial in our registry and one with no published human study at all. Here are 15 cannabinoids drawn from their PubChem structures, two at a time, with the atoms that differ shaded so the whole gap sits in view: a tail, a carboxyl group, a ring that oxygen has flattened.

Why the drawing matters

A different molecule is a different record.

15 pairs in four groups. Shading marks the atoms a drawing has that its partner lacks; a side with no shading is the smaller structure and every atom in it appears in the other. The drawings are small; the consequences are not. Every group corresponds to a line a buyer, a formulator or a lab manager has to read differently.

Pentyl vs varin

A varin has to earn its own evidence

Trim two carbons from CBG's side chain and you have CBGV; do the same to CBD and THC and you have CBDV and THCV. The scaffold is unchanged, and nothing else carries over. Each varin has its own registry record, its own count of human studies (none, for any of them, in our registry) and its own grade, and a resemblance on paper transfers none of it.

Acid vs neutral

A COA line for THCA is not a line for THC

The shaded carboxyl group is what the plant made and what heat takes away as CO₂. Until it goes, the acid is the compound in the jar; once it goes, a different compound with a different mass is. That is why total-THC arithmetic exists, why a raw product drifts on the shelf, and why an acid and its neutral form are read as two lines, never one.

What ageing makes

Two compounds with no enzyme

CBN's shaded ring is THC's ring after oxygen has flattened it; CBL's cage is CBC's open ring after light has closed it. Neither has a synthase. The plant builds their parents, and the shelf builds them, which is why both climb on a certificate as a product ages.

The big three side by side

Everything grows from the open chain

CBG's geranyl chain is the part the synthases close, on the acids, into the rings of the CBD, THC and CBC lines. Three ring closures, three families, each with its own record. Of the three pairs in this group, CBG is the one whose drawing has no ring past the aromatic core.

Where this sits

Identity is the first grade, not the last.

A structure is the one fact about a cannabinoid that never needs hedging, and it is where every record on this site starts. What follows it, in cells, in animals and in people, is graded rung by rung on the evidence ladder, and for most of the molecules drawn here the human rungs stand empty in our registry. Peregrine Biopharma funds the platform and holds no editorial authority.
